三 | 他为中国赢得了史上首枚世锦赛男子跳远金牌。从2012年初登国内赛场，到如今站上世界最高领奖台，稳步前进的王嘉男用了十年时间，终于一跃冲天。2013年7月，王嘉男首次获得代表中国参加国际比赛的机会。他以7米95的成绩获得印度浦那亚锦赛冠军。连世青赛都没比过的他就这样得到了参加当年莫斯科世锦赛的资格。王嘉男1996年8月出生于辽宁省沈阳市，得益于出色的身体条件和运动天赋，他早早与田径结缘。2010年，王嘉男进入徐州市田径队，随后又被选入江苏省体工队，2012赛季，未满16岁的他就开始代表江苏队在国内田径赛场上崭露头角。2012年，王嘉男在2月的全国室内大奖赛南京站中获得室内七项全能冠军，4月他又参加了全国田径大奖赛肇庆站，以7063分的成绩获得十项全能第五名。最初练习田径时，王嘉男并没有明确专攻的单项，而是主练十项全能，即100米、400米、1500米、110米栏、跳远、跳高、撑杆跳高、铅球、铁饼、标枪十个项目都要练，跑跨跳投统统不落下。这恰恰也是很多田径高水平强国在培养青少年人才时经常选择的模式——在全方位打下训练基础的情况下，根据运动员自身条件确定发展方向。很快，全面发展的王嘉男就找到了自己的突破方向。“第一次比全能时跳远就跳了7米80，达到国家健将水平。当时省队教练就跟我说，别练全能了，于是我就开始练跳远。”王嘉男此前接受采访时说。2012年9月在昆山举行的全国田径锦标赛上，王嘉男以8米04的成绩获得跳远冠军。这是他职业生涯第一次突破8米大关，当时他才刚刚过完16岁生日。大赛型选手2013年7月，王嘉男首次获得代表中国参加国际比赛的机会。

五 | 连世青赛都没比过的他就这样得到了参加当年莫斯科世锦赛的资格。跳远项目的特点是偶然性大、容错率低，日常训练水平和大赛成绩往往难以画上等号。奥运会、世锦赛等大赛中，资格赛就三次试跳机会，决赛中前三跳如果发挥不好，后三跳的机会也就没了。在莫斯科，16岁的王嘉男交出了昂贵的“学费”，资格赛三跳都没超过7米60，无缘决赛。

六 | 用时任中国田径队总教练冯树勇的话说，“比得一塌糊涂，但也积累了宝贵的大赛经验”。在那之后，王嘉男在美国外教兰道尔·亨廷顿的指点下，个人最好成绩不断攀升，重要赛事中的表现也相对稳定。2014年，他在尤金世界青年锦标赛上以8米08的成绩赢得金牌，第一次在海沃德田径场站上了世界之巅。2015年的北京田径世锦赛上，未满19岁的王嘉男又创造历史，以8米18的成绩获得铜牌，成为第一个登上世锦赛男子跳远领奖台的亚洲运动员。

七 | 世界冠军北京世锦赛之后，王嘉男的成绩还在不断进步，2018年他在贵阳跳出8米47的个人最好成绩，并追平了李金哲保持的全国纪录。大赛中他的发挥也相对稳定，大多都能跳出8米20左右的成绩。不过在2015年之后的几年里，世界男子跳远整体水平提升明显，美国、南非、古巴、希腊等国家涌现出一批成绩在8米50之上的运动员，让王嘉男、黄常洲、高兴龙等中国年轻跳远选手在大赛中创造佳绩的难度大大增加。2016年里约奥运会，王嘉男以8米17位列第五；2017年伦敦世锦赛，他跳出8米23排名第七；2019年多哈世锦赛，他以8米20排在第六；去年的东京奥运会，王嘉男发挥失常未能进入决赛。“东京的跟头我栽得太狠了。后来我经常把东京比赛时用的一些物品放在身上，警示自己。”25岁的王嘉男说，“有人可能会觉得这样好晦气，但我就要把它们放在身上，提醒自己要吸取东京奥运会的教训。”时隔八年再次回到海沃德田径场，知耻后勇的王嘉男在俄勒冈田径世锦赛终于抓住了机会。虽然最后一跳之前，他的成绩还只排在第五位。“最后一跳之前，我看了下大屏幕，感觉8米15左右的成绩就能拿到奖牌。我就想我就闭眼睛跳，仰着头跳，我也能拼个奖牌。”王嘉男说。
